AUSTIN, Texas, May 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — In recognition of the state’s thriving travel and tourism industry, Governor Greg Abbott announced the designation of May 7-13 as Texas Travel and Tourism Week, in conjunction with National Travel and Tourism Week. The travel and tourism industry is one of the strongest drivers of the Texas economy and showcases the diversity and beauty of the Lone Star State.

The Texas travel and tourism industry generated an estimated $69.2 billion in spending in the state in 2016, which directly supported 671,600 jobs across a variety industries, including leisure and hospitality, transportation, retail, trade services, finance, real estate, construction, insurance and others.

Additionally, leisure travel to Texas destinations increased by five percent in 2016 over 2015. From sandy beaches and picturesque mountains, to guest ranches and urban centers, Texas offers a multitude of incredible leisure experiences for visitors of all ages, palates and interests.

The Governor is encouraging all Texans and those who have visited Texas to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #TexasToDo throughout Texas Travel and Tourism week.

Texas Tourism, in conjunction with the U.S. Travel Association, will spotlight the «Faces of Travel» on social channels throughout the week, introducing travelers (across Texas and beyond) to the unique individuals that help the Texas tourism industry thrive. These Texans speak to what it’s like to work at a variety of attractions across the state, from museums and hotels to «only in Texas» destinations and experiences.
